Diagnosis

In most cases the diagnosis is made by a neurologist who is able to assess this kind of eyelid spasm correctly, since he is familiar with forms of focal dystonia. Eye specialists do not always identify patients with blepharospasm straight away, since eyelid spasms with other causes are common features of their practice (for example if patients have inflammation of the outer eye or are examined with instruments containing bright lights).
