Forms

With spasmodic torticollis, a distinction is made according to the three main directions of the head’s movement:

• spasmodic rotatory torticollis: rotation about a vertical axis
• spasmodic laterocollis: tipping sideways onto the shoulder
• spasmodic retro-/anterocollis: tilting forwards or backwards

The commonest form is spasmodic rotatory torticollis, followed by combinations of spasmodic torticollis and spasmodic laterocollis.
